Companies are making do with fewer employees in this down turn of the economy. There were almost 2000 mass layoff events in the second quarter of 2010 that resulted in 338,064 workers loosing their jobs. California recorded the highest number of unemployment claims during this time frame. Many of the first employees to be cut during the recent recession were in sales. For this reason, California companies with lean sales forces need to invest in sales training in CA that makes sense financially and intellectually.
Not only have California companies cut their sales departments, the competition is sharper. Buyers are more cautious because they have limited funds and are wary about starting new projects. They even tend to limit access to sales presentations and innovative ideas. Old sales techniques result in fewer leads, fewer face-to-face meetings, and fewer new deals. Perhaps it is time to raise your sales team’s IQ?

January proved to have a promising start for 2011, with retail sales resulting in an estimated growth of 29% when compared to January 2010. With January sales and VAT freeze promotions assisting with soaring sales figures, frantic shoppers trying to beat the VAT rise, boosted online retail sales by 86% on the day before the VAT rose by 2.5%. However, the accountancy group BDO spoke of how these fantastic sales figures weren’t predicted to last, with BDO’s Don Williams adding “with January sales and VAT-freeze promotions finished, and Valentine’s day the only significant date, retailers have braced themselves for an ugly February”. It seemed they were correct too. February statistics showed the positive effect of seasonal discounting slowing sharply, and therefore suggesting that the recent VAT rise is in fact harming consumer’s confidence. February sales ‘saw next to no growth across most sectors’, according to The Retail Gazette and with poor weather and little public holidays, the month turned out to be a miserable one across high street retail sales in the UK. Home ware sales dropped 0.6 per cent compared with January, while fashion revenues fell by 0.7 per cent. Overall, BDO’s high street sales tracker demonstrated in February’s monthly review, how practically all retailers were now witnessing lower demand trends. On the positive side however, online sales showed a rise in February, with an increase of 32.9% and Don Williams, national head of retail and wholesale at BDO LLP stated that “When we are looking back at 2011, the numbers won’t be inspiring, but they won’t be awful”. Year-on-year growth is still positive for 2011 so far and with April on the horizon, many are hoping that the brighter weather and three public holidays, thanks to the Royal wedding, will make a positive effect on the recent plummet in consumer sales
The question is, will one holiday centred around the Royal wedding really encourage consumers to splash out and contribute to helping sales rise again? When discussing this idea, The Daily Mail focused on what other benefits the British holiday will bring besides a rise in regular high street sales. They stated in a recent article “experts estimate the wedding could boost the struggling British economy by 620million through sales of merchandise and tourism alone”.

This really isn’t sales, it’s sharing. This lie right here is probably the most ridiculous one of them all. When I knew nothing about sales and was told this, I knew better…Are you kidding me! Anytime someone gives you money in exchange for a product, that is considered sales. Here are the two major problems with this lie.
There’s a huge deficiency of proper sales training because if it’s not sales, then there’s no need for sales skills. And or, the person that you signed up with, doesn’t know the correct way to market the product so he or she can’t teach you how to do it the right way either. As a result, people are thrown to the wolves totally unprepared to retail their products and their opportunity.
